Now that we are settled into the footy season again, this presentation on Thursday 2 May at 12 pm at the GSV promises a lot of interest. Go to Events on our website to make a booking.

Col Hutchinson became the AFL Statistician and Historian in 1992, and since November 2005 has been the AFL Statistics and History Consultant. He is a life member of the Australian Football Heritage Group, whose charter is to preserve the history of the AFL clubs and the code at all levels.

Col's theme will be Families in Footy.

I will highlight the remarkable series of family links relating to players and coaches at the elite level, featuring all AFL clubs, during the sixteen decades that Australian Football has existed.

One remarkable statistic is, that of the 12,700 identities that have played at League level during the past 122 seasons, there have been no fewer than 691 sets of brothers, 505 sets of fathers and sons, 120 sets of grandfathers and grandsons, 31 sets of great-grandfathers and great-grandsons and four sets of great-great-grandfathers and great-great-grandsons.

There are numerous amusing coincidences and unusual incidents that will be highlighted, and questions from those in attendance will be welcome.During the session I will invite feedback from the audience. For example, some people are likely to have a family link with a current or former football identity.

So if you are a Hudson, a Leek, a Cazaly - or maybe connected to his mate 'Skeeter' Fleiter - or you are interested in the families of the game, this talk will be a must.
